Gurram Jashuva
Gurram Jashuva was
one of the great Telugu poets of this century. He wrote poetry to the strict metre, but it reflects modern and progressive thought. He was brought up as a Christian. Yet, he drew his inspiration for poetry from Hindu mythological epics.
Jashuva’s famous work was
"Gabbilam"
that was fashioned after Kalidasa’s
Meghasandesam
. He, however, chose bat as his messenger to convey his prayers to Kaasee Visvanaatha and Visaalaakshi Annapoorna and apprise them of his plight as a
Daridranaraayana..
He claimed the feat of Chellapilla Venkata Sastry — the eminent poet and scholar— touching his feet to adorn his ankle with the
Ganda Penderam
as
the
shining glory of his life.
